Indications:
Indications:
Diabetes mellitus in adults, stable, from mild to moderate, uncomplicated and without ketosis that cannot be controlled with diet alone.
Contraindications:
Juvenile diabetes. Diabetes complicated with ketosis and acidosis. Diabetic coma. Pregnancy. Surgery, severe trauma, severe burns and severe infection. When weakness, malnutrition, nausea, vomiting, thyroid or hypophysis and/ or suprarenal failure is observed, the relation risk-benefit for the patient should be assessed.

Posology at the beginning of treatment should not be of more than ½ to 1 pill of Pira (2.5 to 5 mg of glibenclamide) per day with breakfast and with lunch, provided that it is a light one. After that, dose may be adjusted by increasing ½ pill of Pira (2.5 mg of glibenclamide) in weekly intervals until achieving and appropriate control of the glycemia levels. The maximum dose should not be of more than 4 pills of Pira (20 mg of glibenclamide). Daily doses of 2 to 3 pills should be administered at intervals during the day, and with the main meals. In weak or emaciated patients, with hepatic and/or renal dysfunction and old age, the daily dose at the beginning of treatment should not be of more than 1.25 mg of glibenclamide.
